About

Sergio Méndez-Cardona is a Colombian biologist and microbiologist specializing in the ecology of vector-borne diseases. With a strong research background in the ecology and taxonomy of disease vectors, he has focused extensively on the vectors of Chagas disease and Leishmaniasis. He has served as the curator of the entomological collection at the National Institute of Health of Colombia, where he contributed to advancing knowledge on the biodiversity and distribution of these vectors.

Currently, Sergio is a graduate student at the Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory, where he is investigating mosquito biting behavior and the transmission dynamics of dengue. His work is aimed at understanding the ecological factors influencing dengue risk and contributing to the development of strategies to control mosquito-borne diseases.

Sergio is deeply committed to advancing the field of vector ecology and the epidemiology of infectious diseases, with a particular focus on improving disease surveillance and control. His work aims to contribute to the broader effort to mitigate the global burden of vector-borne diseases.
